As a caregiver you know that tending to a loved one with a debilitating condition or dementia is both a privilege and a challenge. In fact, those day-to-day responsibilities can put caregivers at risk for exhaustion or even physical illness.
Respite Care is designed to give both caregivers and seniors a break from the usual routines. It gives caregivers some free time for a vacation, to take care of other responsibilities—or simply take a much needed mental break. Respite care is also good for seniors, since it allows them to spend time with adults trained to cater to their needs in a setting that is safe and comfortable. Respite care is a program to engage in new activities and interact with other seniors, who will understand what they are facing.
Respite care is not all the same. At UP Family Care Home, our respite caregivers provide monitoring and companionship to seniors for short periods of time—typically four weeks. We provide a wide variety of services including traditional home-based care and physical/occupational rehab series—all of the services that our permanent residents enjoy. Our Respite Care residents can also take part in social, devotional, recreational and educational activities and programming. This not only keeps them lively, but also keeps them sharp.
